One of the most fragrant clematis is the species henryi. My henryi comes from China. The plant has a lot of flowers.

Very beautiful photos. Does this one require a lot of space to grow? I am just wondering why these species plants are not a more popular choice. To me it seems that anything fragrant and in bloom at this time of year would appeal to a lot of people. Or are they difficult to grow? Just curious.

This plant is only for 4 years in my collection. It is an import from China and you get a piece of wood with some tiny roots therefore there are only a few in the hobby. The plants from Crug Farm are not from China.
The plant is not too difficult and in the future a cultivar will be available. Edited by ton hannink - 09 Feb 2007 at 5:47pm |

Hello Ton
Just seen your picture of C.Henryi. Very beautiful. You say your plant is an import from China. How did you obtain it? Is it possible to import it and how can this be done? Thanks.
Aidan
