The pictures look very much like C chrysocoma leaves. I have had three true plants, but they did not survive our winters, possibly a combination of wet and cold. Plants sold by some nurseries I think are hybrids with montana, as they grow far too big and are much harier than the species.

Aidan, I have the same results. I think this is the small chrysocoma because my 'large' plant is only 50 cms. The leaves are very hairy. The grow is other as the chrysocoma I had. I have not had flowers but I hope next year. I suppose that the plant is not very hardy but in England it is not so cold in winter as in Holland.

This is a seedling grown from seed sent to me by Yu Liangliang from China. In this photo you can see the unusual leaf characteristics. The leaves are covered in tiny hairs and papery to touch. The seedling was germinated in January 2009 and did not flower this year. I do not know how hardy it is.
