For anyone thinking that Clematis will not grow in Sout Africa, think again! My friend, Marie Lambert, grows more than 150 varieties in full sun in Pretoria. The only group not grown here, is the Alpine Group.

Marie's Annual Clematis Show just completed and was  a great success. You can view photo's of the show on her website:

The website also contains valuable information on the Care and Pruning of Clematis. Although directed at South Africans , it still gives good info and advice  for growers all over the world. September / October  in South Africa equals May/June in Europe etc.
