Hi, i would like to grow some clematis into and on a hedge (hawthorn ?) so to add some summer colour. Unfortunately the location is north facing and the soil is not great.
I have done some research and from what i can gather C tang 'Bill Mackenzie' is unfussy and so are C viticella group. I am sure the conditions will not be ideal for them but perhaps they will still perform and flower.
Anybody any experience in such a situation.
Thanks  Hugh

Good Morning Hugh,

A hedge is a very dry place, hedges are enourmous drinkers and eaters. My suggestion is to try Clematis potaninii.
Good luck,
Wim S
