I have recently moved to a property where I have inherited a clematis alpina growing on a west facing wall. It is twenty plus years old , neglected and very tangled and top-heavy, but still flowers well. Can someone please advise me on the best way to tackle pruning and reshaping as I believe this variety would normally only need minimum pruning.

Hiya Mike, I've left you a private message on this board (you have to log in to get it); there are several considerations (especially with an older plant) and to type it all would be a big task, but to chat on the phone would be much easier and quicker. So if you ring me I can try to give you some suggestions.
