Clematis 'Hidcote Purple'

It is Hidcotes centenary year in 2007 and the head gardener, Glyn Jones
and the National Trust are desperately keen to trace another clematis
which they have lost,

'Hidcote Purple' from the Late, Large-flowered Group,

The plant was last listed in the Plant Finder in 1989.
You will see from the International Clematis Register and Checklist p131
that the plant was raised at Hidcote and introduced by Jim Fisk in 1974.
The flowers are (10) 12-18 cm across.  Sepals 7-8,
pale pinkish purple to purple, suffused with claret,
reflexed in mature flowers, pointed.  Anthers dark.
Deciduous climber with stems 2-2.5 m.
Flowers June-Sept.
Published ref. Fisk's Clematis Cat. 1974.

If anyone has this plant or knows of its whereabouts could they please contact
Glyn Jones direct glynjones@nationaltrust.org.uk

Thank You
